We’re loving giving you a peek behind the curtain of our lives here at Wanderlust, and this week it’s Isabelle’s turn! Isabelle, (or Ita) joined us a couple of months ago and we can barely imagine how we coped without her! Take a read of a day in the life of our juice-loving, rock-climbing, social media ads whiz, Isabelle!
6:00am – This is usually wake up time. My partner, Mitch, will usually get up to make coffee as I catch up on my messages from my family members and friends. They all live in the US, so it is nice to wake up to these messages as it makes me feel like I am not missing out on anything.
6:45am – We like to stretch out our legs so we will either go for a run, throw around the frisbee or head to the jungle gym to do some pull-ups and lunges at the school located only a few minutes’ walk from our home. It is a great way to tire out our pup, Locky. His favourite activities include sniffing, playing with sticks and chasing the birds. He is a kelpie x with a goofy grin and big floppy ears. He is always dressed to the nines with a bow tie we got for him in New Orleans.
7:30am – We head back home to make some fresh juice. Mitch bought me a juicer for my birthday, so we make the effort to use it as often as possible. I will be sure to share my favourite recipes later on – stay tuned!
7:40am – After juicing, I head to our greenhouse to check on our plants. Give them a big drink of water and do some quick pruning. I’ll then jump in the shower for a quick rinse and start getting ready for work. If we have leftovers from dinner, I will pack myself and Mitch some lunch. If we don’t, I will turn on the BBQ and grill some chicken and vegetables or make a quick curry.
8:20am – It is time to leave for work! I normally dislike driving, but traffic is not bad in Australia compared to what I was used to in the US. I take this time to catch up on my favourite podcasts. These would include Reply All, Radiolab, The Daily by the New York Times and How I Built This with Guy Raz. If I am all caught up, I usually call my sister or mom to catch up on their lives.
8:45am – I arrive at the office and get ready for the day. I turn on my computer and while it is booting up, I will put my lunch away and refill my water bottle – I try to drink at least 2 litres of water per day.
9:00am – Once I am settled, I open my inbox and start catching up on my emails. I prioritize for the day and start getting to work. I always start off by checking the social channels for my clients, responding to comments and inbox messages. I then go and look at my ads, which is one of my favourite parts. I analyse which tactics are working best and make any tweaks to ensure they are optimized for the best results.
11:30am – It is time for lunch! I just heat up my lunch and head back to my desk to continue working while I eat my lunch. I also take this time to go into the #twitterverse… This is a great place to see what the consumers are saying in real-time.
12:00pm – Now is when I get into strategising! I usually have a few campaigns in the works and my mind works best after lunch usually. I am working on the nitty-gritty details that most people hate, but I really enjoy. I try to focus on the consumer journey and ensure everything is in place. This takes a lot of patience, time and expertise.
Amy and Danica are usually helping me out with this as they are the experts in our clients. After just a couple of months I’m still getting to know everything there is to know about our portfolio of clients. I am lucky I have them to answer any and all questions I have.
4:30pm – Once I hit a good stopping point, I will start searching on Instagram and Facebook for some interesting content our consumers are posting. As Danica mentioned, it takes a lot of time trawling hashtags and geolocations for some outstanding user-generated content for our clients. For our destination marketing client, the majority of our posts are UGC. It takes a lot of digging to find the best photos for sharing on our client’s channels.
5:00pm – Pack up and leave the office and make my way to the rock-climbing gym! I usually meet up with a buddy to get some climbs in after work. I like to do something active after work to stretch my body after a day of sitting in front of a computer. I usually do this on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Tuesdays, I go bouldering with my partner.
8:00pm – I arrive home and start making dinner. Occasionally, my partner and I will treat ourselves to our local Thai restaurant, Larry’s Unique Thai. Larry is awesome and always makes a point to come to visit us at our table. Plus, his food is amazing! I love getting the Jungle Curry Chicken and my partner always gets the Panang Curry Fish with coconut rice. If it is just me, I will make something quick and enjoy some Netflix. Lately, I have been binge-watching Jane the Virgin. It is my guilty pleasure and since it takes place in Miami, it gives me a taste of home. This reminds me, the new season of Queer Eye is out!
9:00pm – I may take this time to catch up with friends and family. My sister just had a baby, so I make an effort to FaceTime her to see how maternity leave is treating her and how my niece is doing! Time to hit the shower and go to bed.
I don’t work Wednesday, so my day looks pretty different on that day of the week! I take this time to attend a pottery class in Nedlands. I have been practicing pottery on and off for over 12 years and I love it. It is a great way to be creative with my hands. I also just started teaching a community yoga class at a park near my house.
